1st Series Type 1 (1st Series) 1967-1972
It was signed by Tun Ismail bin Mohamed Ali. It used the old Malay spelling "Di-perlakukan", "Gabenor" and "Sa for SA-PULOH, SA-RATUS & SA-RIBU".
1st Series Type 2 (2nd Series) 1972-1976
It was signed by Tun Ismail bin Mohamed Ali. The words "Diperlakukan" and "Gabenur" were used to replace the old Malay spelling. "Sepuluh", "Seratus" and "Seribu" were used.
1st Series Type 3 (3rd Series) 1976-1981
It was signed by Tun Ismail bin Mohamed Ali. Slight changes on the note design. The "$1" on the bottom left corner had been removed. A relative small dollar sign ($1) was introduced at the top left corner.
1st Series Type 4 (4th Series) 1981-1983
It was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Aziz bin Haji Taha.
2nd Series Type 1 (5th Series) 1982-1984
It was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Abd Aziz bin Hj. Taha. A recognisable blind mark was introduced at the upper left corner.
2nd Series Type 2 (6th Series) 1986-1995
It was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Jaffar Hussein. it removed the blind mark on the upper left hand corner. The serial number which was previously printed horizontally is now printed vertically in red colour.
2nd Series Type 3 (7th Series) 1995-1998
It was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Ahmad Mohd.
3rd Series Type 1 (8th Series) 1996-1998
It was singed by Tan Sri Dato' Ahmad Mohd Don on the bottom left side of the notes.
3rd Series Type 2 (9th Series) 1999
It was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ali Abul Hassan on the bottom left side of the notes.
3rd Series Type 3 (10th Series) 1999
It was signed Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ali Abul Hassan's signature has been shifted to the center of the note.
3rd Series Type 4 (11th Series) 2000
It was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz at the center of the note.
4th Series Type 1 (12th Series) 2007
It was signed by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

The Portrait of Yang Di-Pertuan Agong for the 3rd and 4th Series of Malaysian Banknotes
As to date, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has issued four series of Malaysian Banknotes. All of these banknotes feature the portrait of the first Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Malaysia. The above are the four different portrait of the first Yang Di-Pertuan Agong depicts on the Malaysian banknotes. Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuanku Muhammad was the first Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of the Federation of Malaysia elected on 3 August 1957 for a five year term.
Established in 1957 under the constitution of the federation of Malaysia, Yang Di-Pertuan Agong is the highest ranking office created by the constitution. He is "the Supreme Head of the Federation" and the Malaysia's Head of State.
The current or 13th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Malaysia is Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, the 16th Sultan of the state of Terengganu.
