This commemorative coin carries the face value of RM1. It was issued on 25th April 2002 in conjunction with the installation of His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong XII. The observe of the coin features the portrait of Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail. The reserve of the coin features the Malaysia emblem with the wording of "The Installation of His Majesty Yang Di-Pertuan Agong XII" printing in Malay language.
Born in Arau, Perlis on 17 May 1943, His Majesty received his early education in Malaysia and later completed his formal education in England. He later attended the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. Upon his return, His Majesty served in several positions in the armed forces. His Majesty is an avid sportsman with a keen interest in education and in the activities of the Ex-Servicemen Association of Malaysia.
His Majesty was installed as Raja Muda Perlis in 1960 and was proclaimed the sixth Raja Perlis on 17 April 2000. His Majesty married Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanke Fauziah binti Al-Marhum Tengku Abdul Rashid, D.K., S.S.P.J., S.P.M.P., D.M.N., in 1967.
